For Morgana's positive Character Design I attempted to use the positive stereotypes; such as the choice to make her eyes big and brown with a clever gaze and an overall assertive attitude in her strong posture. the face is round and child like which makes the character likable and approachable. also for the Western audience I used the pants from "I dream of Jeannie"; although a very strong negative stereotype for Arab women when worn as a dancing garment, I used its familiar color and the aspect of the flowing fabric but in a more appealing design that denotes a practical persona.
Why is this positive?
Eastern Perspective:
•Modest
•True to her culture; attire and Skin tone.
•Assertive, athletic woman with personality
•Reads as Morgana the witty servant girl who gains Ali Baba’s respect and adoration
Western Perspective:
•Assertive woman with personality
•True to her culture; reads as Eastern or “I dream Jeannie” from the attire without being objectified.
